Creating Intervention and Assessment Strategies for General Education Mathematics Course through Delta Math and WICOR

Organizer's Email: zkeisler@saludaschools.org, smejisantiago@saludaschools.org

General education mathematics instructors face significant challenges in addressing students’ diverse mathematical backgrounds and assessing mastery of content in meaningful ways. This two-part workshop provides practical intervention and assessment strategies to support student success while promoting engagement with mathematical concepts. The first part focuses on Delta Math as a tool for delivering personalized, student-centered interventions that address specific skill gaps and create interactive learning opportunities with immediate feedback on student mastery. The second part introduces WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading) as a framework for designing lessons and assessments that deepen student engagement with mathematical content while comprehensively evaluating conceptual understanding. Throughout the workshop, participants will have dedicated time to collaborate and develop actionable lesson plans integrating Delta Math and WICOR strategies into their own courses. This workshop equips instructors with evidence-based tools to simultaneously meet diverse student needs, create engaging learning experiences, and implement robust assessment practices in general education mathematics courses.
