‟Assessment of the Affective Domain of Learning via Simulation Assessment” by Tracey Coale, Tara Andrews

Abstract:

As the educational landscape evolves through AI and online learning, instructors and researchers must adopt innovative techniques to ensure the affective domain—the emotional and ethical side of learning—is cultivated prior to field work. This research presentation details a simulation event designed to assess the affective domain. Aligned with the theme “Humans, Humanity, and the Humanities,” the session demonstrates practical strategies for modifying curriculum to prioritize human connection, caring, and empathy.

Participants will examine an evidence-based simulation assessment that addresses the affective domain of learning and explore adaptations for students across various disciplines.vBy the session’s conclusion, attendees will be able to (1) discuss the necessity of assessing the affective domain, (2) identify methods to assess and cultivate this domain, and (3) develop strategies for implementing these assessments in their own classrooms.
