Getting Started with PreTeXt (Feb 2026)
Icon: registration Register here Icon: calendar Icon: video

Held via Zoom on February 12, 12pm-2pm Eastern

Concerned about the accessibility of your course documents? PreTeXt is the answer.

Participants of this workshop will be introduced to the fundamentals of authoring documents with PreTeXt and gain the technical skills required to work with it, particularly to author course materials such as worksheets.

Participants should have some familiarity with LaTeX or other markup languages, but no previous experience working with PreTeXt or HTML/XML is assumed.

Prior to the workshop, please ensure you have a GitHub account. (While using GitHub is not necessary to use PreTeXt, it provides the easiest way to get started without needing to install PreTeXt and provides free hosting for web versions of your documents.)

Registration is free using the Register here link above.

Workshop content

We will work step-by-step to guide all participants through the process of creating a PreTeXt project from scratch. By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Use GitHub Codespaces to create an editable PreTeXt document in their web browser.
  • Write and structure content using PreTeXt markup.
  • Add content to the document, including mathematics, graphics, interactive exercises, and more.
  • Build accessible and interactive webpages as well as a static PDF from the same PreTeXt source.
  • Easily deploy the interactive webpages online (for free).

We will also share tips for converting existing documents into PreTeXt.
