Jonathan Cancino-Manríquez
Dr. Cancino is a young mathematician, who works in a remarkably broad area of research including the interface between general topology and set theory, mainly on cardinal invariants of the continuum and structure theorems for ultrafilters. He recently solved a celebrated 60-year-old problem on the theory of ultrafilters utilizing innovative breakthrough set-theoretic techniques. He is awarded this prize for his exceptional work in these areas.
Dr. Cancino has been awarded US$ 10,000 from Elsevier to be used to support the winner to travel to and attend major conferences in topology, or to support travel and living expenses while on a visiting appointment at leading research center of her/his/their choice.
Moreover, organizers of the Spring Topology and Dynamics Conference (STDC) and the annual Summer Conference on Topology and its Applications (SUMTOPO) will invite the winner to be one of their regularly funded plenary speakers.
We would like to congratulate Dr. Cancino on winning this prize.
The award is sponsored by Elsevier on behalf of the journal Topology and its Applications, together with the annual Spring Topology and Dynamical Systems Conference, the annual Summer Conference on Topology and its Applications and the Conference of the European Set Theory Society.
The award aims to celebrate Mary Ellen Rudin’s achievements and her legacy, together with encouraging the development of young talent in mathematics.
